Background of business - Scrumptious Cafe
Kirstie has spent most of her working life in the catering and hospitality and up until recently, has worked as a waitress, bar maid and chef in a local pub. She spent 3 years in college gaining qualifications in professional cookery and hospitality.
Kirstie has set up her own catering and cake-making business after receiving support from a Kickstart enterprise coach based at the GRID* centre in Low Moor.
The GRID* kitchen has provided the perfect opportunity for Kirstie to put her passion and entrepreneurial skills to use and start her own catering/cake making business as well as running a centre cafe for GRID* businesses and corporate events.
Support journey
Kirstie is 19 years old and from Wyke, she contacted the enterprise coach regarding the kitchen which was available to rent. She discussed her business idea and it fit in perfectly with what the centre had envisaged, as well as giving Kirstie the coaching and support she would need to get going.
Kirstie said the GRID* was the perfect place to start her business as she has her own space to work and be creative. There is the added incentives of access to the enterprise coach and all the GRID* members who have already gone on their own journey of self employment.
Kirstie received help from Shelley Tasker, enterprise coach at the centre, who supported her through the difficult initial stages of setting up her own business and developing her idea from planning to start-up. Shelley said: “It’s great to help young people achieve their ambitions in life. Kirstie is very hard-working and has achieved a lot in a short space of time. The cafe is proving very popular and I am sure she has a great future ahead of her.”
Kirstie opened her ‘Scrumptious’ coffee shop on 15th November. The shop offers snacks, lunches and refreshments for the businesses based in the GRID*, as well as external catering both corporate & private functions, kids parties, Celebration Cakes. In the future Kirstie is hoping to delivery food hygiene courses and healthy eating workshops.
