Over the past 44 weeks 16 young volunteers from the Bradford District have given up an incredible 15,488 hours in volunteering!
The young people, who are aged 17 – 25, have been on full-time volunteering placements within the Council and Young Peoples Services as part of the vtalentyear programme. They have made a positive contribution to the lives of others and learnt more about working with children and young people. They have worked with a total of 2,326 children and young people.
These are the second group of young people from the district to complete the scheme, which is a pilot run in 33 local authorities to encourage young people to develop their talents through volunteering.
Placements were at least 30 hours a week over 44 weeks and the young people also got the chance to complete a level two national vocational qualification.
Vtalent volunteer Jade Nelson, 17 from Holmewood said “vtalentyear has helped me so much, and without this I wouldn't have achieved anything, I'm glad I've stuck with it and not given in. I have given it my all. It has given me a whole lot of experience which could now take me further in life. Vtalentyear has been an eye opening experience. It has made me more confident, and changed me as a person.”
The volunteers celebrated their success at a graduation ceremony last Wednesday at the Dubrovnik hotel where they were able to showcase some of their talent performances from some of the volunteers.
