Young people active in the community - Wanted: Host homes

Global Xchange is a cross-cultural volunteer exchange programme run by VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas) in partnership with the British Council and other partner organisations around the world. Working directly with the UK Department for International Development (DFID), Global Xchange will be run through the local partner organisation City of Bradford YMCA.

In October 2011 a team of 20 volunteers (aged 18-22) from the Philippines an the UK will spend three months in Bohol,Philippines working on local projects and engaging with the community. Having completed their time in the Philippines the, the whole team will then spend twelve weeks and 6000 hours engaged in voluntary work in Bradford on local community projects. We are appealing for local people to host the volunteers during their stay, January – March 2012. Families, singles, flat-shares, couples all welcome to apply.

Can you host 2 volunteers in your home?

  • Would you like to learn more about another culture and have an international experience from the comfort of your own home?
  • Could you host 1 volunteer from the Philippines and 1 from the UK for anything between 2 and 12 weeks?
  • Do you have a spare room? Volunteer pairs will share

Global Xchange provides:

  • A weekly allowance to cover food costs and utilities
  • Volunteers who have gone through a selection process and training
  • A briefing for you before the volunteers arrive
  • Two programme supervisors on hand for support whenever necessary

Volunteers are expected to be one of the ‘family’ and do not need to be entertained. They will fit in with your schedule and are willing to clean and cook for themselves if necessary.
