Around 23,000 young people in the district have benefited from a programme to teach them business and enterprise skills.
Step Up Enterprise was a two-year programme run by the Council to inspire young people to be interested in business and develop their enterprise skills. During the scheme, we trained over 900 teachers and professionals and worked with over 100 schools.
In July, 60 teams of young people took their business ideas to the marketplace in the second Step Up Market Challenge. They sold their products and services on markets in Church Green, Keighley and Darley Street, Bradford.
Among the business ideas were jam made from the children’s own strawberry plants, a range of in-car accessories to promote seatbelt use and fair-trade jewellery and accessories.
The children, from schools across the district, won their places by impressing local business people in a Dragons Den-style event.
