A young entrepreneur has set up her own catering business thanks to help from two enterprise projects running in the Bradford district.
Kirstie Pollard, 19, has set up her own catering and cake-making business after receiving support from a Kickstart enterprise coach based at the GRID* centre in Low Moor.
Kickstart is a scheme run by Bradford Council which helps local people to set up and grow their own businesses in the district. The GRID* project offers office space and facilities at a reasonable cost to help new businesses start up. Business people also have access to professional networks and coaching as they start their enterprise journey.
Kirstie rents a kitchen at the GRID@Bradford South in Low Moor business park where she runs her own business as a corporate and private function caterer and cake-maker. In addition she also runs a busy centre cafe for GRID* businesses and their clients.
The young businesswoman, from Wyke, had a background of working in the catering and hospitality business and had worked as a waitress, barmaid and chef in a local pub. She spent three years at college gaining qualifications in professional cookery and hospitality.
Councillor Ralph Berry, Executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “Our b someone campaign is all about making sure young people are given the support they need to fulfil their potential and succeed.
“Kirstie is an excellent example of a young woman who has worked hard to set up and run her own businesses and I wish her every success in life.”
