Business and community mentors are wanted to help young people in Bradford boost their skills.
People are being urged to come forward to work with Year Ten pupils at Carlton Bolling College who need extra support in reaching their learning goals.
The scheme also ties in with the district's b someone campaign which is all about encouraging young people to fulfil their potential and achieve success.
Councillor Michael Kelly, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Services to Children and Young People, said: "This is a great opportunity for adults to support these young people and to share their experiences of work and life with them.
"The mentoring scheme will also help to motivate the students and it will give them an informed insight into the working world - it may even help some of them decide which career or training path they wish to take in the future."
Organiser and teacher Rose Banwell said: "This is the first time we have run a project like this and we hope a wide and varied range of professionals and adults will give up some of their time to mentor a student.
"Volunteers will be given full training in college and they will meet their student once every half term to give them advice and support them through any problems they may have."
The school will also carry out CRB checks for the volunteers.
