BKYP Elections – few days left to vote!

Young people in the Bradford district only have a few days before the closing date to apply to be a member of the Bradford and Keighley Youth Parliament (BKYP).

The BKYP elections will take place 5-11 March 2011 and the closing date for applications is Friday, 10 December.

Bradford Council’s Integrated Youth Service is looking for young people, aged between 11 and 21, who want to work with local politicians and decision makers to improve the services the Council delivers. Candidates must live in the Bradford district and want to make a difference in their community.

Any young person interested in standing for election will be asked to attend two training sessions to help them develop their understanding of what being a member of the youth parliament (MYP) means and to get help developing their manifesto and election campaign.

Councillor Ralph Berry, Executive member for Services for Children and Young People, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for young people to give their views to the Council on how they think services should be run and what matters most to them.

“The BKYP supports the district’s b someone campaign which encourages young people to succeed, improve their skills and fulfil their potential.”
