B-talented volunteer Sohail tells his story

Sohail a young B-Talaneted volunteer

My name is Sohail, I am 19 years old and I am from Bradford 5 - Marshfields. Before I started B-Talented I was doing voluntary youth work in many different areas across the Bradford district. My role was to help young people plan and organise educational projects, workshops, activities etc. I also had to supervise young people throughout activities and projects.

I volunteered on an international residential where we took a deaf group to Jamaica. My duties were to assist and supervise our group around the school we stayed at and also help the group on the beach or with any luggage they needed carrying. When I returned I did a speech on the trip to Jamaica at the Aiming High presentation which took place at the Dubrovnik hotel.

I have also done some one to one work with young people who have a disability or have any personal issues which they need help with. I am really proud of myself because I have built a very good relationship with young people who I did not have any relationship with when I first started volunteering. I am doing this project because I want to learn new skills and gain more experience in youth work. I have enjoyed the four week induction because the group have been very friendly and I have settled in very well. I enjoyed all the training, especially the community profile training because it has made me realise that you must do some research before going to work in a new community.

From this project I would like to have a new experience and I would like this to lead onto employment. After B-Talented hope to have gained many new skills and I would like to have a job.
